The golden number

The Golden Number is represented by the greek letter phi.
Many of the proportions of the Parthenon are alleged to exhibit the golden ratio. The Parthenon's facade as well as elements of its facade and elsewhere are said by some to be circumscribed by golden rectangles. Greek mathematician merely regarded that number as an interesting irrational number, in connection with the middle and extreme ratios. Its occurrence in regular pentagons and decagons was duly observed, as well as in the dodecahedron (a regular polyhedron whose twelve faces are regular pentagons).
In nature the golden ratio expressed in the arrangement of branches along the stems of plants and of veins in leaves. He extended his research to the skeletons of animals and the branchings of their veins and nerves, to the proportions of chemical compounds and the geometry of crystals.

There are two theories about we can organize the different colour:
1. Physicists explain colour as a function of light. This is the Additive model. White light was first proven to contain all of the colours by the physicist Sir Isaac. The light primaries are different from the pigment primaries. The secondaries colours are red, green and purple. The primaries colours are magenta, cyan and yellow.
2. When you want to pain with pigments, you use the subtractive model, in other words, the CMYK model, CYAN,MAGENTA, YELLOW and BLACK, the colour that results of mixing all of them.

CYAN + YELLOW = GREEN
YELLOW + MAGENTA = RED
MAGENTA + CYAN = PURPLE
MORE CYAN + MAGENTA = INDIGO
MORE MAGENTA + CYAN = MAUVE
YELLOW + MAGENTA + CYAN = BLACK

Primary and Additive colours.

Primary colors are sets of colors that can be combined to make a useful range of colors. For human applications, three primary colors are usually used, since human colour vision is trichromatic. There are cyan , yellow and magenta:

■Additive colour describes the situation where colour is created by mixing the visible light emitted from differently colored light sources. This is in contrast to subtractive colour where light is removed from various part of the visible spectrum to create colours.

The golden Number.

-The golden number is represented by the Greedl letterφ or Φis an irrational number: 2

-In mathematics and  arts, two quantities are in the golden ratio if the ratio of the sum of the quantities to the larger quantity is equal to the ratio of the larger quantity to the smaller one. The figure on the right illustrates the geometric relationship. Expressed algebraically:

-The golden ratio has been used since Egyptian times for the construction of buildings, though, are the Greeks use: who exploited it to maximum use in all facets of art. Here are some examples of this:

+The first known use of the golden ratio appears in building the pyramid of Cheops, dating from 2600 BC.

+An example of a golden rectangle in art is the elevation of the Greek Parthenon.

-The golden ratio arises from the division into two of a segmentstoring the following proportions: total length a + b is the longestsegm.ento is accommodative to the shorter segment b.

NUMERO AUREO

Colorful Paintings

The color

Primary colors are sets of colors that can be combined to make a useful range of colors.
The primary colors are Cyan, Magenta and Yellow. The combination of any two primary colors creates a secondary color.
The most commonly used additive color primaries are the secondary color of the most commonly used subtractive color primaries, and vice versa.

Mixing yellow and cyan produces green colors; mixing yellow with magenta produces reds, and mixing magenta with cyan produces blues. In theory, mixing equal amounts of all three pigments should produce grey, resulting in black when all three are applied in sufficient density, but in practice they tend to produce muddy brown colors. For this reason, and to save ink and decrease drying times, a fourth pigment, black, is often used in addition to cyan, magenta, and yellow.

File:BYR color wheel.svg

Using red, yellow, and blue as primaries yields a relatively small gamut, in which, among other problems, colorful greens, cyans, and magentas are impossible to mix, because red, yellow, and blue are not well-spaced around a perceptually uniform color wheel. For this reason, modern three- or four-color printing processes, as well as color photography, use cyan, yellow, and magenta as primaries instead. Most painters include colors in their palettes which cannot be mixed from yellow, red, and blue paints. Some who do use a three-color palette opt for the more evenly spaced cyan, yellow, and magenta used by printers, and others paint with 6 or more colors to widen their gamuts. The cyan, magenta, and yellow used in printing are sometimes known as "process blue," "process red," and "process yellow."

Solid black.svg

Black is the color of objects that do not emit or reflect light in any part of the visible spectrum; they absorb all such frequencies of light. Although black is sometimes described as an "achromatic", or hueless, color, in practice it can be considered a color, as in expressions like "black cat" or "black paint".

White is a color, the perception of which is evoked by light that stimulates all three types of color sensitive cone cells in the human eye in nearly equal amounts and with high brightness compared to the surroundings. A white visual stimulation will be void of hue and grayness.

The golden number

All kinds of artists have used the golden ratio in art throughout the ages. One artist who, I think was influenced by the golden ratio and probably decided to use this concept in much of his art, was Leonardo Da Vinci. Da Vinci's talent as an artist may well have been outweighed by his talents as a mathematician. He incorporated geometry into many of his paintings, with the golden ratio being just one of his many mathematical tools.

Portrait of My Dead Brother.

Salvador Domingo Felipe Jacinto Dalí i Domènech was born on May 11, 1904  in the town of Figures, in the Empordá region close to the French border in Catalonia, Spain. Dalí's older brother, also named Salvador (born October 12, 1901), had died of gastroenteritis nine months earlier, on August 1, 1903. After birth, the painter was named after his dead brother (similarly to Van Gogh).
Of his brother, Dalí said,... "(we) resembled each other like two drops of water, but we had different reflections."
In  Portrait of My Dead Brother, Dalí emulates the dot pattern seen in half-tone newspaper photographs. The face of the boy is created by a dot matrix, a technique that was widely used in the  Pop Art period of the Sixties.

Beneath the boy is a miniature depiction of Millet´s The Angelus. Dalí believed that trough an X-ray of The Angelus, it would be proved that the basket over with the couple are praying was initially the coffin for  a child. Salvador Dalí was fascinated by this work, and wrote and analysis for it. The Tragic Myth of The Angelus of Millet.

M. C. Escher

Maurist Cornelis Escher was a artist very famous. He was from Holland, and he was born in 1898. He did many woodcuts, lithographs, paintings with brilliant images... He could paint many visual effects like depth or volume, and he do imaginary worlds with many optical ilusions and imposible objects. He was like the simetry, and he was an special artist because he didn't have an specific theme to reproduce in his works.
I think Escher was amazing, because he used difficult techniques and mathematics in his works.
I put here some images, but I recommend you to visist this page.

GRACIAS!

OPTICAL ILLUSIONS

An optical illusion is an illusion of our sight sense, that makes us perceive the reality wrongly. This illusions are used in some arts, like cinema or paintings. In arts, they're called trompe-l'oeils:

There are many types of optical illusions. Some of them are:
- Stereoscopic images: if you cross your eyes lightly, you can mix two similar images to create a 3-dimensions one.

- Autostereogram: if you cross your eyes standing 30 cm in front of these images, you'll see as if it had 3-dimensions relief. In the first one you'll see a heart, in the second one, a shark.

- Motion illusions: if you move your head towards and backwards the picture, looking at the point of the centre, you'll see the two circles move.

- Other effects: In the first case, all the lines are pallalel, even though they don't seem to be. In the second image, the two circles are the same size.

El Greco's portrait

El Greco was a famous painter of the sixteen and seventeen century. He was born in Creta, Greece, in 1541 and died in 1614, in Toledo, Spain. His real name was Doménikos Theotokópoulos but they call him El Greco. He draws with a quick stroke (he don't stop in details).

THE GOLDEN NUMBER

 THE GOLDEN NUMBER

The golden number was dicovered by Greek mathematicians and disciples of Pythagoras during the sixth century. It is about and harmonic geometrical figure in wich Greeks found a perfectly balances regulated  (with equal sides) pentagon, in wich inside which they could make a five-armed star called pentacle

When they made the ratios between different parts of the pentacles, the number 1.618 was found by tens of times. This irrational number is considered the symbol of the harmony.
It appears lots of times for example the golden number  appears in "La Sagrada Familia" by Miguel Angel.
