CASA DA MÚSICA

Casa da Música is located in Oporto and was inaugurated on April 15, 2005. The architect who has created is Rem Koolhaas.



On September 1, 1998, the Minister of Culture announced the construction of Casa da Música, during the year 2001, as the European Capital of Culture.
Its location was set on March 8, 1999, in a municipal section of Boavista, where construction began. The construction occurred in the next four years as scheduled, and cost 100 million euros.
In September 2008, Casa da Música hosted the Oporto National Orchestra, which participated in public exploratory presentations, where the music performed was captured along with the expressive gestures of musicians and directors. Scientific articles on special presentationsare also published in Casa da Música 2007 and 2008.



The building is an asymmetrical polyhedron with nine floors of height. The building is covered with white cement slabs, cut by large, wavy or flat glass windows.The main entrance is in front of Avenida da Boavista, its exterior surrounded by a yellow marble floor.
