Week camp 2014

BETTER OUT THAN IN
There are many forms of artistic expression and not all of them are in museums. These days, TV news are telling us Bansky´s adventures in the streets of New York. This artist, because it is a powerfully graphic artist, is currently expressing their ideas on the walls of the North American city. There is irony, complaint, disappointment and a touch of stark reality in the creations concept.
No experts can consider that as vandalism where in fact, we find graffiti as a way of expression, Art in capital letters anyway. Unfortunately, a huge amount of his works have been erased by local authorities but a world of fans have given in unconditionally to his talent.
Fame and mystery are around street artist just the same. If you like to learn more, check the next links:

Playing with poems
"The Poetry of Buildings: Using the names of buildings to teach language and culture as well as raising awareness of students' linguistic landscapes.
http://www.tmenglish.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=206%3Athe-poetry-of-buldings&catid=12&Itemid=134"
Thinking about images related to poems, looking for buildings that can remind you feelings...it´s a beautiful way to learn English and to "dive" into Art and Architecture as well.
Can you imagine a landscape illustrating a song or a poem? Look for the next examples. Which is your favourite?
Soul Mate
© Jacob Pagan
Inquisitive I view, the couples everywhere;
Peaceful and glee, as both lives are shared.
When will it be my turn, I start to ponder;
Deeper into thought I begin to wander.
Burning like wildfire, love will always spread;
The greatest of feelings, at least that’s what I've read.
Giving everything I’ve got, I willingly dare;
So why am I empty, with no one to care?
As time trickles by, and my faith depletes;
I have to stand strong, resist conceding defeat.
I’ve heard of ‘the soul mate’, the one, the only;
Although hope is restored, I am still so lonely.
You’re what I pray, before bed and meal;
That promised emotion, you’ll grant me to feel.
Night after night, I know you are out there;
A bond like ours is most certainly rare.
As doubt as my enemy, I know I can beat;
Until the day we are destined to meet.
Eternally loyal, eternally true;
My tears will freeze, before I stop waiting for you.
Peaceful and glee, as both lives are shared.
When will it be my turn, I start to ponder;
Deeper into thought I begin to wander.
Burning like wildfire, love will always spread;
The greatest of feelings, at least that’s what I've read.

CXV: Spring Alfred Lord Tennyson
Now fades the last long streak of snow,
Now burgeons every maze of quick
About the flowering squares, and thick
By ashen roots the violets blow.
Now rings the woodland loud and long,
The distance takes a lovelier hue,
And drowned in yonder living blue
The lark becomes a sightless song.
Now dance the lights on lawn and lea,
The flocks are whiter down the vale,
And milkier every milky sail,
On winding stream or distant sea;
Where now the seamew pipes, or dives
In yonder greening gleam, and fly
The happy birds, that change their sky
To build and brood, that live their lives
From land to land; and in my breast
Spring wakens too: and my regret
Become an April violet,
And buds and blossoms like the rest.
Now burgeons every maze of quick
About the flowering squares, and thick
By ashen roots the violets blow.
Now rings the woodland loud and long,
The distance takes a lovelier hue,
And drowned in yonder living blue
The lark becomes a sightless song.
Now dance the lights on lawn and lea,

Dylan Thomas (1914-53) Poem in October
It was my thirtieth year to heaven
Woke to my hearing from harbour and neighbour wood
And the mussel pooled and the heron
Priested shore
The morning beckon
With water praying and call of seagull and rook
And the knock of sailing boats on the net webbed wall
Myself to set foot
That second In the still sleeping town and set forth.
My birthday began with the water-
Birds and the birds of the winged trees flying my name
Above the farms and the white horses
And I rose
In rainy autumn
And walked abroad in a shower of all my days.
High tide and the heron dived when I took the road
Over the border
And the gates
Of the town closed as the town awoke.
A springful of larks in a rolling
Cloud and the roadside bushes brimming with whistling
Blackbirds and the sun of October
Summery
On the hill's shoulder,
Here were fond climates and sweet singers suddenly
Come in the morning where I wandered and listened
To the rain wringing
Wind blow cold
In the wood faraway under me.
Pale rain over the dwindling harbour
And over the sea wet church the size of a snail
With its horns through mist and the castle
Brown as owls
But all the gardens
Of spring and summer were blooming in the tall tales
Beyond the border and under the lark full cloud.
There could I marvel
My birthday
Away but the weather turned around.
It turned away from the blithe country
And down the other air and the blue altered sky
Streamed again a wonder of summer
With apples
Pears and red currants
And I saw in the turning so clearly a child's
Forgotten mornings when he walked with his mother
Through the parables
Of sun light
And the legends of the green chapels
And the twice told fields of infancy
That his tears burned my cheeks and his heart moved in mine.
These were the woods the river and sea
Where a boy
In the listening
Summertime of the dead whispered the truth of his joy
To the trees and the stones and the fish in the tide.
And the mystery
Sang alive
Still in the water and singingbirds.
And there could I marvel my birthday
Away but the weather turned around. And the true
Joy of the long dead child sang burning
In the sun.
It was my thirtieth
Year to heaven stood there then in the summer noon
Though the town below lay leaved with October blood.
O may my heart's truth
Still be sung
On this high hill in a year's turning.

Bob Dylan Ballad Of A Thin Man Lyrics
You walk into the roomWith your pencil in your hand
You see somebody naked
And you say, "Who is that man ?"
You try so hard
But you don't understand
Just what you'll say
When you get home.
Because something is happening here
But you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones ?
You raise up your head
And you ask, "Is this where it is ?"
And somebody points to you and says
"It's his"
And you says, "What's mine ?"
And somebody else says, "Where what is ?"
And you say, "Oh my God
Am I here all alone ?"
But something is happening here
But you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones ?
You hand in your ticket
And you go watch the geek
Who immediately walks up to you
When he hears you speak
And says, "How does it feel
To be such a freak ?"
And you say, "Impossible"
As he hands you a bone.
And something is happening here
But you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones ?
You have many contacts
Among the lumberjacks
To get you facts
When someone attacks your imagination
But nobody has any respect
Anyway they already expect you
To all give a check
To tax-deductible charity organizations.
You've been with the professors
And they've all liked your looks
With great lawyers you have
Discussed lepers and crooks
You've been through all of
F. Scott Fitzgerald's books
You're very well read
It's well known.
But something is happening here
And you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones ?
Well, the sword swallower, he comes up to you
And then he kneels
He crosses himself
And then he clicks his high heels
And without further notice
He asks you how it feels
And he says, "Here is your throat back
Thanks for the loan".
And you know something is happening
But you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones ?
Now you see this one-eyed midget
Shouting the word "NOW"
And you say, "For what reason ?"
And he says, "How ?"
And you say, "What does this mean ?"
And he screams back, "You're a cow
Give me some milk
Or else go home".
Because something is happening
But you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones ?
Well, you walk into the room
Like a camel and then you frown
You put your eyes in your pocket
And your nose on the ground
There ought to be a law
Against you comin' around
You should be made
To wear earphones.
Does something is happening
And you don't know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones ? from http://www.bobdylan.com/us/songs
SONNET 4 -William Shakespeare

Fractals, singular and absolutely amazing !
Reading about golden number and the singularity of certain shapes in nature, I found a lot of articles about a Maths´concept: the fractals. I´m sure that your teacher would explain you better than me what´s about these beautiful structures. But I´ll try to define it: a fractal is a pattern inside the structure of some objects and shapes so, it displays a self-similarity on all scales.
Image from
That term that represents a graphic and mathematical model was suggested by Benoit Maldelbrot in 1973, (for learn more http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benoit_Mandelbrot) who used computers to create geometric shapes from chaos to order.
The concept are close up related to Golden ratio. For instance,the proportions of different plant components (numbers of leaves to branches, diameters of geometrical figures inside flowers) are often claimed to show the golden ratio proportion in several species but in some of these "magic" repetitions it´s possible to find fractal models.
"Romanesco broccoli, or Roman cauliflower, is an edible flower of the species Brassica oleracea, and a variant form of cauliflower. First documented in Italy, it is light green in color and is a natural approximation of a fractal." (from WIKIPEDIA)
A pasionate article about the topic:http://www.tyrantfarms.com/garden-golden-ratio-fibonacci-sequence/#.Ukc2YtLwmSo
My students, you are going to learn a lot about Gestalt Laws along next weeks. What is Gestalt Psychology? Click here-
Well, in fact, in the case of fractals you can see that the formation of a continous pattern is based on the law of SIMILARITY.
" law of similarity - a Gestalt principle of organization holding that (other things being equal) parts of a stimulus field that are similar to each other tend to be perceived as belonging together as a unit" (from http://www.thefreedictionary.com/law+of+similarity)
Searching in the Net, it is easy to find " fractal Generators", computer application by means of it, you will create a huge amount of marvellous fractals, e.g. http://www.easyfractalgenerator.com/

REMBRANDT AND VAN GOGH
"Today is Rembrandt’s birthday! Vincent van Gogh greatly admired him: he called Rembrandt a magician several times in his letters and the "great and universal master portrait painter of the Dutch Republic".Vincent van Gogh also made a copy from part of an etching by Rembrandt, depicting the bible story of Lazarus.

A DRAGON ...IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET
Today ,Google Doodle remember us the anniversary of the celebrated architect, Antoni Gaudí. I love whole his production , every building, every piece of ceramic that decorates his works, but if I have to declare my passion by him, that´s my favourite!!!
In 1883 Güell asked to Gaudí to transform Guell Cottage (finca Guell), mainly the garden and the construction of two entrance pavilions: a gatekeeper's house on one side of the entrance and stables on the other side.
The most spectacular element of Finca Güell is the wrought-iron gate that links the two pavilions. The upper part of the gate is shaped like a dragon with bat wings. Gaudí created the dragon by using standard industrial products which he bent and welded together.
The gate is hinged on a tall pillar. The pillar symbolizes the tree of the golden apples.
Both the tree and the dragon are references to the labours of Hercules, the mythical founder of Barcelona.

MORE THAN REAL
Sometimes, we can find absolute masterpieces where the real and artwork seem the same .
When Photography´s birth was attributed to John Herschel in 1839, Arts, mainly Drawing and Painting changed forever and the figurative representation of people, landscapes or daily objects turn into spots, colours, and lines very expresive but not related to "real thing". It was the arrival of movements called Expressionism, Cubism, Abstract Art etc.
But in the current time of Art phenomena, there is place too for Realistic and Hyperrealistic drawings.
Just I wish to show you a few examples:

In memoriam
CALPURNIA: When beggars die there are no comets seen;
The heavens themselves blaze forth the death of princes.
CAESAR: Cowards die many times before their deaths;
The valiant never taste of death but once.
Of all the wonders that I have yet heard,
It seems to me most strange that men should fear,
Seeing that death, a necessary end,
Will come when it will come.

Task for next weeks
Happy New Year, students
Unfortunately, I won´t stay with you in next days, maybe, weeks, so you´ve to pay attention to our blog in order to know the current activities of the second term.
SCAN YOUR DRAWINGS AND UPLOAD TO THE BLOG.
Unfortunately, I won´t stay with you in next days, maybe, weeks, so you´ve to pay attention to our blog in order to know the current activities of the second term.
1st level
Little by little, try to finish photocopies about lettering . Remember the exercise about your selfportrait.PORTRAITS
- Draw a portrait of any fellow doing a simple sketch. Write the name of the parts of the face in your own drawing.
2. Draw your self portrait. First, you have to divide a drawing worksheet into four parts. In each part you will create a different version of your self portrait, for example, one using dots, another one using lines, others applying several techniques... Finally, in the reverse face of the sheet or in another one, do bigger your portrait in your favourite technique (you can mix the use of felt-tip-pens, watercolours, collage... or combine dots, lines, spots of colours, etc.)
3rd. LEVEL
- Finish exercise 2.4
- It´s necessary to change the lesson plan of the curricula due to my illness. Because of this, the next lesson must be the 6th, The Composition. http://www.teresacuesta.es/BILINGUE/webilingue/COMPOSITION%20IN%20ARTS_archivos/frame.htm
- You have to draw different drawings using your classmates like models, at least, five. ( EXERCISE 6.3 of your notebook). Read carefully the instructions and pay attention to images attached.
- In one of your drawings, point and write the parts of the body.
